monday magazine - food holidays

365 Food Holidays For Busy Moms and Dads – We continue our Mother’s Day theme with a creative meal planning idea for busy parents: The Every Day is a Holiday Menu. First, you’ll want to visit one of our favorite foodie websites: Foodimentary. There, you will discover a different food to celebrate every single day of the year – from desserts to comfort food to classics – along with historical facts. Take it one step further: Have the kids make up their own food holiday, complete with food science and history facts to share at meal time. Most kids love to find uncommon facts about familiar things, such as food. If yours are little historians in the making, we also recommend The Food Timeline. Warning: They may find it difficult to peel their eyes away from this humongous buffet of food knowledge.

monday magazine - comfort foods

Chocolate if For Women and Pizza is For Men… Maybe Not – You may plan on getting a huge box of assorted chocolates for mom this coming weekend, and she will surely appreciate this. It is true that North American women tend to select sweets and snacks as comfort and celebratory foods while men usually crave protein-based foods, such as wings and burgers. However, when asked about their favorite comfort foods, the balance changes. Turns out men and women agree in their preferences, placing French fries, sandwiches, pizza and potatoes at the top of the list, with sweets and chocolate as a second best. This being said, we do not recommend giving mom a box of French Fries for Mother’s day!

monday magazine - baguette snack recipes

Three Baguette Snacks for Movie Night With Mom – Our Spinach & Artichoke Dip is one of the most requested appetizers when we cater events. This got us thinking: Why not come up with easy, tasty recipes our dining guests can make at home with our fresh baguette. Here are three of our favorites and we think they are perfect for classy, yet simple small bouchées to offer mom at a home-spun dinner & movie night.

1) Artichoke Crostini au Gratin: Elegant bites you can easily serve as a first course or snack, or add to a buffet style table.
2) Hummus Bacon Bites: This baguette sandwich is quite nutritious and immensely satisfying. You can’t go wrong with bacon. We think it;s actually nurturing.
3) Feta & Mushroom Crostini: This one is quite delicious alongside a few BBQ wings. Just sayin’.
