5 Timely BBQ Hacks – Memorial Day Weekend is just around the corner. Gathering around a feast with friends and family is a fitting way to honor those who have fought to gain this freedom for us. Our festive mood celebrates life. The BBQ is an enduring tradition, and with it come traditional recipes and the tricks of the trade passed from one generation to the next. Here are a few BBQ Hacks to add to your arsenal of tricks:

  1. Use 2 skewers for your kebabs so meat and vegetable pieces do not rotate when flipped.
  2. Cook fish over lemon slices to keep it from sticking to the grill.
  3. Use tortilla chips as kindling.
  4. Have guests write how they want their burger cooked on the inside of the bun with ketchup, mustard or mayo (our favorite).
  5. Put a dimple in burger patties. Fill with a few ice chips to keep them from drying while cooking.

Google Play With Food – We stumbled upon two delightful eBooks recently that we knew we had to share in our Monday Mag. Both are geared toward children and focus on food and eating habits. You can find them on Google Play.

Going out in The Sun? Eat Sunscreen – Many already choose an anti-inflammatory diet to address internal discomforts, but while topical sun protection is essential, we can increase sun tolerance with simple, delicious foods. In a nutshell, look for sources of good saturated fats, such as those found in salmon, and antioxidants, beta-carotene, vitamin C and E. Here’s what you’ll want on your plate to face the sun this summer: Tomatoes, grapefruit, watermelon. broccoli, mixed greens and sweet potatoes. A note about those tomatoes: Cooked tomatoes have higher levels of lycopene. Studies show that just a few tablespoons a day provide significant protection from sun damage. One more reason to eat that pasta or pizza. Just sayin’.
